# Visa

In short

Visa launched Intelligent Commerce in April 2025: AI-ready cards that swap card details for tokens, spending limits a consumer sets, and a partner programme for AI platforms. It later added the Trusted Agent Protocol for agent identity and Intelligent Commerce Connect, which routes agent payments across Visa and partner rails. Merchants plug in via their acquirer or processor.

## At a glance

## What it does not do

- Visa does not acquire merchants or settle their card payments directly; merchants reach Visa Intelligent Commerce through an acquirer, a PSP or the Visa Acceptance Platform.
- Visa does not run a shopping agent of its own; it supplies credentials, controls and agent identity to the agents and merchants that transact.
